SHSM

The Transportation Specialist High Skills Major Program is offered at Bishop Reding.

This SHSM program is ideal for those students wishing to specialize in Transportation studies during their high school career. The program awards graduates an industry recognized Red Seal Endorsement on their Ontario Secondary School Diploma, adding to their credentials for university, college, apprenticeship, or workplace career opportunities.

When students consider a SHSM, the heart of the program are the following components:

1. A bundle of nine Grade 11 and Grade 12 credits that comprises:
four transportation major credits
three other required credits from English, mathematics, and science or business studies
two cooperative education credits tied to the sector
2. Seven sector-recognized certifications and/or training courses/programs (4 compulsory and a choice of 3 electives)
3. Experiential learning and career exploration activities within the sector
4. Reach ahead experiences connected with the student’s postsecondary plans
5. Development of Essential Skills and work habits required in the sector, and documentation of use of OSP

Students will meet with a guidance councillor to structure their grade 11 and 12 schedule to accommodate the course requirements, based on their post graduate pathway:

The Transportation Technology SHSM program is open to all students in the Halton Area. Please call the school for more information.
